CHONBURI, May 18 (TNA) – An American tourist was rescued from a sewer pipe in the Pattaya City after having been trapped there for almost four hours on Wednesday.
Rescue workers were called to help the foreigner, who was seen being trapped in the drain at Soi Thepprasit 8 in Banglamung district.
Covered in filth, the man sat in the drain about three meters deep from the ground. Workers removed the drain grate to pull him out of the sewer safety. He looked weary, asking for water.
The police said the man identified as Jonathan Ioane Vaimaona arrived in Thailand on May 12 with his American girlfriend and were staying at a condominium, two kilometres from the scene.
Jonathan said he was walking back to his place when he fell into an open manhole. He could not climb up and no one heard him yelling for help. He waded through the underground sewer system until finally his voice was heard by a passerby.
The police found him having no injury and brought him to his room. They will later question him how he plunged into the drain. (TNA)
