BANGKOK, June 22 (TNA) – The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) ordered serious disease control measures as patients from an Islamic center in Yala were spreading throughout the South except Chumphon and Ranong provinces.
CCSA spokeswoman Dr Apisamai Srirangson yesterday reported 402 COVID-19 cases from the cluster of the Markaz Islamic school in Yala province and Alpha and Beta variants of the coronavirus were found among them.
COVID-19 cases from the cluster already expanded to 12 southern provinces and the Department of Disease Control and the Department of Medical Sciences were expected to report the degree of COVID-19 mutations in the cluster within this week.
CCSA ordered the management of all southern schools to convince students and parents to comply with disease control measures including the quarantine of students from at-risk areas and no gatherings of relatives and friends. The order preceded the Aidilfitri festival of Muslims next month.
In Songkhla province, officials identified 71 educational workers and students linked to the Markaz cluster in Yala. Of them, 44 tested positive for COVID-19, 11 negative and 15 were waiting for their test results. (TNA)
