PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Dec 31 — Combined Thai-Myanmar New Year celebrations made a debut at the Dan Singkorn border crossing where Thailand’s Prachuap Khiri Khan province and Myanmar’s Myeik city are linked and tourists will pray during the transition of the New Year there tonight.
Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Veera Sriwattanatrakul and Myeik Governor U Aung Kyaw Tan together launched the New Year celebrations at the Singkhon border crossing in Ban Rai Khrao village, Khlong Wan sub-district in Muang Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Representatives of local Thai and Myanmar private sectors witnessed the opening ceremony.
The joint New Year celebrations are aimed at boosting bilateral relations between Prachuap Khiri Khan and Myeik as the Singkhon border crossing will be upgraded into a permanent border pass in the future.
The opening ceremony took place last night and preceded Thai-Myanmar cultural shows and a beauty contest of women from Myeik's Mudong village. The beauty pageant drew a large number of Myanmar spectators.
