BANGKOK, Dec 4 (TNA) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will launch its walking street campaign to boost tourism and the economy on Silom and Yaowaraj roads this month.
BMA spokesman Pongsakorn Khwanmuang said the project responded to the instruction of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha for the BMA to promote tourism and stimulate the economy.
According to him, Silom Walking Street was set on an 800-meter-long section of Silom Road between Saladaeng and Nararom intersections from noon to midnight on Sunday 15 December. There will be zones for arts and cultural shows, delicious foods, outstanding local products and the activities of children and elderly people.
Yaowaraj Walking Street will be organized on Dec 13-15 on Yaowaraj Road between Chalermburi and Ratchawong intersections from 7pm to midnight.
The road will be partially closed on Dec 13 and 14 to maintain traffic of vehicles and totally closed on Dec 15 for pedestrians’ complete shopping and eating conveniences.
The roads would be beautifully illuminated, BMA officials would keep cleaning them and toilet vehicles would be deployed, Mr Pongsakorn said.
The BMA would later organize such walking street activities in other districts weekly until next May, he said. (TNA)
