BANGKOK, Nov 8 (TNA) — A man was arrested for allegedly taking part in an attack that killed 15 people at a village defence volunteer base in Yala provincial seat on Tuesday.
Government spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat said the suspect was arrested as security authorities were identifying suspects with forensic evidence and found a deserted camp of suspects. He was arrested at Than To district.
Ms Narumon also said it was still unnecessary for the government to impose a curfew in the far South but the government needed information from local residents to support its security operations.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said investigation into the Nov 5 attack in Yala was progressing.
He also said that the government still needed defence volunteers in southern border provinces but their security measures had to be adjusted.
Insurgents tried to launch attacks to provoke security authorities to respond violently but authorities were adhering to peaceful solutions including normal law enforcement, development projects and public relations campaigns, Gen Prayut said. (TNA)
