BANGKOK, Sept 18 (TNA) – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Ministry of Education launched a project to produce “Guide Scouts” to ease the shortages of local tour guides and promote local tourism.
Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn and Deputy Education Minister Kanokwan Vilawan introduced the joint project initiated by the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports and the National Scout Organization of Thailand.
Under the project, boy and girl scouts will be trained to introduce visitors to local tourist attractions, histories, cultures and traditions through Thai and foreign languages. Apart from being local tour guides, the youths will develop their voluntary mind, hospitality and love for their localities.
Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat said training courses would be developed to prepare scouts for their tour guide roles.
The project could ease the shortages of local tour guides, promote local tourism, develop the capabilities of Thai youths and raise their willingness to contribute to local development, he said. (TNA)
