BANGKOK, Aug 6 (TNA) — Defence Minister Sutin Klungsang gave his moral support to Janjaem Suwannapheng, a boxer who will take on Imane Khelif of Algeria in the women’s 66-kilogramme (welterweight) semi-finals at 3.34am on Wednesday with high hope that she will make a history to become Thailand’s first female boxer to grab an Olympic gold medal.
Janjaem is currently serving in the Royal Thai Air Force with the rank of Leading Aircraftwoman.
Sutin said that as a Defence Minister, he supported Janjaem and urged all Thais to cheer her. He said that at Olympic level, the boxer are all good but boxing was in the DNA of Thais and he believed she will win the fight.
Janjaem, 23, is a two-time world championship medallist and a runner-up at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year. She met Khelif once and was beaten at the world championships last year. Jamjaem said she know the Algerian boxer is strong but she was well prepare for tonight.
Thailand have sent eight boxers — three men and five women — to Paris and Janjaem is the only one left in the tournament. (TNA)
