BANGKOK, Sept 18 (TNA) – The opposition’s general debate on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has started, focusing his incomplete oath in the cabinet’s swearing-in and unexplained policy statement.
Gen Prayut was at the parliament to listen to the debate. He did not answer reporters’ questions while entering the debate chamber.
Today’s meeting was the last day of the present House session. The opposition sought the general debate without a vote on the incomplete oath recital and Gen Prayut’s failure to elaborate on the sources of budgets to implement the government policies that he had stated in the parliament.
The opposition had to end its debate at 6pm instead of midnight tonight. Opposition chief whip Suthin Khlangsaeng said the cabinet told him that cabinet ministers would have to attend a royally sponsor merit-making event. He hoped government MPs would not try to obstruct the general debate by opposition MPs.
“I assure that there is not a reason for a closed-door session. Regarding the government’s concern that the opposition might make references concerning an institution, I confirm that that is unnecessary,” Mr Suthin said. (TNA)
