BANGKOK, July 22 — The Royal Irrigation Department is trying its best to feed water to tap water production in the northeastern province of Buri Ram as local reservoirs are drying up.
Thongplew Kongjun, director-general of the department, said his officials were quickly sourcing water to feed the system of the provincial waterworks office of Buri Ram where rainfalls were unusually low.
Irrigation officials were dredging waterways from Huay Jorakay and Huai Talad reservoirs to pumps of the provincial waterworks office and were sourcing water from an old quarry about 10 kilometers from Huai Talad reservoir. They were also drilling soil for groundwater, he said.
According to Mr Thongplew, medium and long-term solutions include dredging local reservoirs to increase their water reserves, diverting water from Lam Patia reservoir to Huay Talad reservoir and asking the provincial waterworks office to set up another tap water plant in Non Din Daeng district to source water from Lam Nang Rong reservoir.
He asked consumers to minimize water consumption and farmers to delay their cultivation to wait for steady rainfalls, expected late this month. (TNA)
