LOEI, May 27 (TNA) – Buddhists in Thai and Lao border
towns on Monday jointly organised a merit making ceremony marking the Visakha Bucha week
in Loei province, northeastern Thailand.
Hundreds of people gathered at a bridge over Mekong River in
Loei’s Tha Li district on Monday.
Thai Buddhists welcomed their Lao counterparts from Xayaburi
province in the opening of Buddhist promotion week.
Head of the culture office of the northeastern province of
Thailand Yaowapa Tosa-nguan said it was a celebration of the peoples of
Thailand and Laos who shared similar cultural and religious identity.
Visakha Bucha Day fell this year on May 18 but activities
continue to commemorate three key events in the life of Buddha, his birth,
enlightenment and death.(TNA)
