LOEI, Aug 5 (TNA) — Rescuers from the government and the private sector are handing out assistance to flood victims in Nam Suay sub-district of the provincial seat in the northeastern province of Loei.
Runoffs resulting from the influence of storm Sinlaku heavily hit Ban Soop village on Aug 2.
There are 240 households, 74 of which were severely affected. Thirty-four families suffered residential damage and 40 others lost their belongings including electrical appliances and farming tools.
A cupboard holding the village’s documents and tap water fee worth about 120,000 baht in cash was washed away. Village headman Boonthai Bootda said the cupboard was found Tuesday evening but its doors were open and the money was gone.
Some villagers found banknotes worth about 600 baht on the ground. Police would find out if the money was stolen.
The current of the local Huay Nam Lai stream remained strong but its level was subsiding thanks to its continuous discharge into the Loei river and then the Mekong river in Chiang Khan district.
Rescuers and volunteers of the government and the private sector were arriving to distribute assistance.
Government and private organizations operated a help center at Wat Si Sawang Waree for the fourth day. The center included a royally sponsored kitchen. (TNA)
