BANGKOK, May 27 (TNA) — The Royal Thai Police Office is investigating the bombing that killed a policeman and injured others near the Chana railway station in Songkhla province.
Pol Col Krisana Pattanacharoen, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Police Office, said a group of people detonated a bomb behind the Chana railway station in Moo 3 village of Ban Na sub-district in Chana district of Songkhla.
The explosion killed a policeman and injured three colleagues from the Chana police station. It also wounded a citizen. Investigators were questioning witnesses and examining surveillance camera footage. They believed the bombing was aimed at creating a security situation.
National police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda expressed condolences towards the families of the dead policeman and the injured people and ordered assistance for them. The police chief also ordered subordinates to arrest suspects soon, Pol Col Krisana said.
Police in the southern province were also instructed to step up security measures, look for fugitive criminals, search vehicles on main and minor roads and patrol commercial areas and communities to prevent untoward incidents. Besides, the national police chief asked general people to report suspicious persons and objects to police right away, Pol Col Krisana said. (TNA)
