BANGKOK, May 21 (TNA) – Today is the deadline for people who have marijuana to report the possession and receive amnesties. Some 16,000 people have done so.
The Food and Drug Administration gave 90 days for those who have marijuana to declare the possession and be granted amnesties. The grace period started on Feb 27. It received such reports at its headquarters in Bangkok and at provincial health offices in other provinces. The deadline fell at 4.30pm today.
FDA deputy secretary-general Dr Surachoke Tangwiwat said 16,000 people had reported their possession of marijuana and the FDA received about 800 reports a day at its head office. He expected the FDA to receive about 1,000 more declarations on the last day today.
Afterwards the FDA will compile the total number of people with marijuana possession and the information will include figures from the website of the Thai Red Cross Society.
This afternoon the Government Pharmaceutical Organization and the Department of Medical Services were set to discuss the use of the first lot of marijuana oil that the GPO would produce from late July to early August. The lot would comprise 2,500 bottles of marijuana oil. (TNA)
