BANGKOK, Feb 26 (TNA) – The Ministry of Commerce organized a business matching for Thai food producers and foreign importers as it targets Thai exports to grow by eight per cent this year.
Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion Banjongjitt Angsusingh said the Sourcing Forum is a platform for Thai food producers and almost 200 foreign buyers to meet for business networking.
The department invited foreign supermarket chains, retailers and online superstores to meet Thai manufacturers of food and consumer products such as Sahapat Co.,Ltd., Charoen Pokphand Group, Doi Kham, Yan Wal Yun Corporation Group Co. Ltd.
Thai exporters of premium fruit and fruit processed fruit products also met nearly 50 buyers from China like Hema Fresh, Shanghai Fruit Day, Kunming Parkson Department Store.
Thailand’s exports of fresh fruit and processed fruit products were valued at US$4.3 billion last year.
Upto 500 Thai companies participated in the business matching. The department expected it would create at least 1,000 business partners and more than 200 million baht trade deals during the event and at least 1.8 billion baht within one year.
After today’s event, a field trip will be held for foreign buyers to see food processing factories and a durian orchard in Chanthaburi tomorrow.
Thai exports saw a 5.65 per cent year-on- year contraction in January this year, the department hoped that the business matching activity will help boost Thai exports in the remaining months. (TNA)
