BANGKKOK, Feb 4 (TNA) — The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported that particulate matter was within safe levels in the morning and Cessna 172 planes were set to operate 8-9 flights to spray water today.
The BMA said that particulate matter with diameter of 2.5 micrometers and less measured less than the safety threshold of 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air in the past 24 hours in all districts.
Fine dust was at blue levels (very good) in 19 districts, green levels (good) in 22 districts and yellow levels (moderate) in Wang Thonglang and Bang Khen districts.
The Meteorological Department reported that southerly and southeasterly winds were stronger while the Pollution Control Department said fine dust would rise in some areas but would remain at safe levels tomorrow.
On Feb 3, light planes showered water over 16 square kilometers in Bang Kae, Bang Bon, Thawi Watthna and Taling Chan districts and PM2.5 levels dropped by 40-50%. Besides, officials and local residents cleaned Kanchanaphisek Road from its intersection with Kalapaphruek Road to its intersection with Rama II Road at night. About 60 water trucks were deployed for the task.
Today Cessna 172 planes were set to shower water in 8-9 flights over Samae Dam area of about 16 square kilometers. The area includes Rama II Road.
The National Environment Board was set to discuss immediate and long-term measures to cope with toxic dust today. (TNA)
