BANGKOK, Jan 30 (TNA) – Loan shark victims get back their
assets worth over Bt124 million seized from loan shark gangs in nine provinces
in central Thailand.
Provincial Police Region 1 held a ceremony on Wednesday to return
land title deeds and other assets to debtors who were fallen victims to loan
sharks operating in nine provinces under its jurisdiction.
Pol Lt-General Manu Mekmok, deputy national police chief,
said it was the sixth batch of the asset returned to owners by Provincial
Police Region 1.
The assets used as collateral to secure loans under unfair
contracts were seized during anti-loan shark operation from December 27 to
January 28.
Police have charged loan shark operators as well as arranged
debt settlements in some cases.
Other police units in the country have carried out anti-loan
shark operation for years under the government’s policy to curb finance crime
that has hampered social inequality.
