CHIANG MAI, Jan 23 (TNA) – The northern province of Chiang Mai has been shrouded in haze as the tiny dust particles have increased to an unhealthy level in many areas.
Haze can be seen from Doi Suthep, a scenic point on the mountain, overlooking the Chiang Mai city.
The level of PM 2.5 particulate matter reached 134 micrograms per cubic metre in the provincial seat, much higher than the safety limit at 50 microgrammes per cubic metre.
In Mae Rim district, it has risen to the hazardous level at 188 microgrammes per cubic metre.
The tiny dust levels also pose health threat in other districts, including Doi Saket, Hot, San Sai and Phrao districts as it is about 2-3 times over the safety standard.
Local residents are advised to wear N95 grade face masks while doing outdoor activities and spray water around their houses to reduce dust. (TNA)
