BANGKOK, Dec 21 (TNA) — Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Grisada Boonrach has ordered relevant organizations to quickly survey flood damage in the South to prepare swift assistance as the rainy season continues in the region.
The minister said he was worried about flood impacts on residents in the South, especially farmers, and the quick surveys would ensure swift assistance for affected people.
He also said that he had earlier ordered the Royal Irrigation Department to install pumps and machines in 75 flood-prone areas in 16 southern provinces to drain floodwater within a few days and protect economic and urban areas in the region.
He also ordered his subordinates to closely monitor rain and flooding situations in the South.
Thaweesak Thanadechopol, deputy director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department, said persistent rain in Trang caused flooding in low-lying areas of Nayong, Yan Ta Khao, Huay Yod and Muang Trang districts with flood levels ranging from 0.5 to 2 meters.
Communities and urban areas at the center of the southern province remained intact, he said. (TNA)
