SOUTHERN THAILAND, DEC 19 (TNA) – Several provinces in
the South of Thailand face continued inundation after incessant rain persisted.
Thailand southern region has been battered by severe
flooding. After situation slightly
improved over the weekend, more torrential rains have worsened flooding the
Gulf of Thailand coastal areas in Trang, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat and
Phatthalung provinces.
The Andaman side of the coast has received little or no rain
during the same period.
Overnight rain triggered flashfloods rushing down mountain
range in Trang’s Na Yong district. A
high linking Trang and Patthalung has been impassable due to deep floodwater.
The commercial town center of Na Yong is threatened with
heavy flooding prompting authorities to issue warning.
In Phatthalung, floodwater continued to rise in Khuan Khanun
district, as water concentrating at a major highway junction. Many roads in the district was flooded for
the second time in a week, rising to about 50 centimeters.
Over 25,000 households in six districts of Phattalung have
been affected.
Heavy rains have hit Songkhla province worsening flooding in
low-lying areas and traffic congestions in several areas. (TNA)
