BANGKOK, Dec 6 (TNA) — The Marketing Organization for Farmers will seek permission from the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry to build a new market worth 3 billion baht in the compound of its Or Tor Kor market in Chatuchak district.
MOF director Kamolvis Kaewfaek said the project would result in a new market where farmers nationwide could sell their products without depending on middlemen. It would also be a new landmark of Bangkok to attract tourists, he said.
He assured that the new market would present new kinds of products so that existing vendors at the Or Tor Kor market would not be affected.
Mr Kamolvis also said that his organization would have to raise rents collected from existing vendors at the Or Tor Kor market because the State Railway of Thailand, the land owner, doubled its rent on the MOF.
The higher rent by the SRT was a major cause of the MOF’s loss-ridden operation, he said. (TNA)
