BANGKOK, Nov 14 (TNA) – The Cabinet on Tuesday approved the “Amazing Thailand Grand Sale: Passport Privileges” campaign to offer special discounts for foreign tourists from Nov 15 to Jan 15.
Nathaporn Chatusripitak, advisor to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office said the government asked for cooperation from goods producers, department stores, tour agencies to give discounts on top of the normal discounts during the two –month campaign.
Thailand Grand Sale is one of measures, which will be tentatively put in place for two months to attract tourists during the peak season.
Tax refund services will be set up at department stores and tourist spots to facilitate foreign visitors and special lanes for immigration service will be opened for Chinese tourists at five international airports.
Other measures were also given the green light such as giving the double-entry visa for six months for foreigners who applied for a single-entry visa.
The Cabinet also relaxed visas for travelling on land by allowing expatriates in neigbouring countries to cross the border by cars to Thailand without limitations.
Thailand recorded 31 million tourists from January to October 2018, up 7.83 per cent. It is expected the new tourism stimulus measures will help the country reach the target of 38 million tourists this year. (TNA)
