BANGKOK, Oct 23 (TNA) – Police are seriously enforcing law to control the sales of alcoholic beverages at the end of the Buddhist Lent period.
Pol Col Krisana Patanacharoen, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Police Office, said national police commissioner Chakthip Chaijinda ordered the Metropolitan Police Bureau, the Provincial Police Regions 1-9 and the Central Investigation Bureau to seriously arrest people violating the Alcohol Control Act.
The instruction focused on those selling and drinking alcoholic drinks at prohibited places, he said.
Besides, the operators of restaurants, shops and service parlours were warned not to sell all kinds of alcoholic beverages, both retail and wholesale, nationwide, from 12am on Oct 24 to 12am on Oct 25.
Duty-free shops at international airports are exempted.
Violators are liable to a jail term of up to six months and/or a fine of up to 10,000 baht under Section 59 of the Alcohol Control Act. (TNA)
