BANGKOK, Aug 8 (TNA) – Two suspects in a spate of Bangkok bombs were involved in an insurgent attack in Narathiwat in 2013, said National police chief Chakthip Chaijinda.
The national police chief on Thursday told a press conference about progress in the investigation into series of bombings in the capital on Aug 2.
He said that the duo were arrested at a check point in Chumphon less than 10hours after the incident.
They were charged with running an illegal organization, having explosive devices in their possession and attempting to kill others.
He said their confession was useful to the investigation but the details could not be disclosed to the public.
They are in the operational level and were well-prepared.
He said coordinated bombings did not intend to cause fatalities.
The duo also have records for their involvement in carrying out an attack at a marine outpost in Narathiwat in 2013
The bombs could be brought from the southern region or be assembled in the capital, he said.
The national police chief said 80-90 per cent of bombings in Thailand were politically motivated.
The recent coordinated bombings in Bangkok were well-planned. However, he said it was difficult to know the real motive and those, who were behind the attacks.
The police also said more than 15 people were involved in the coordinated bombings and some were related to the insurgency in the three southern border provinces. Some suspects have reportedly left the country, according to the police. (TNA)
