BANGKOK, July 23 (TNA) – Thailand is ready to organize the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Post Ministerial Conferences, and Related Meetings from July 30 to Aug 3 for the sake of ASEAN development.
Suriya Chindawongse, director-general of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, said representatives of 31 countries would attend the meetings at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will officially open the meetings on July 31.
“Thailand, as the chair, will try to inspire sustainability, participation by all parties and regional development by ASEAN and dialogue partners. These include the development of smart cities that will support urbanization and solve inequality and poverty, as well as frameworks for interactions with countries outside the region, transport networking for sustainability, linkage of ASEAN and G20 and environmental conservation,” Mr Suriya said.
Everything would be implemented through the three main pillars: ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC), he said.
He also said that the United States had positive attitude towards the Indo-Pacific concept and could cooperate in many areas. The US had funds to support the connectivity of infrastructures and announced its readiness for the support in the recent ASEAN Summit in Singapore, Mr Suriya said. (TNA)
