BANGKOK, June 14 (TNA) – Thailand has announced its readiness to organize the 34th ASEAN Summit on June 22-23.
Suriya Chindawongse, director-general of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, said that Thailand, as the ASEAN chair, was well prepared for the summit and was promoting its theme of “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability” to emphasize cooperation within ASEAN to cope with disasters.
According to him, the summit will consider a declaration and action plan to solve waste in the sea, plans for the ASEAN Cultural Year 2019 and ASEAN’s stance on Indo-Pacific.
Besides, there will be a special ASEAN economic ministers’ meeting on June 21-22 to discuss regional economic partnership, preparation for the digital era, the promotion of digital application among small operators, and electronic customs integration.
The value of trade between Thailand and other ASEAN member states amounted to US$100.7 billion last year, consisting of US59.6 billion worth of Thai exports and US$41.1 billion worth of imports from ASEAN countries.
Important Thai exports to the market include automobiles and parts, refined oil, chemical products and machinery, and key imports are crude oil and computers and parts. (TNA)
