NONTHABURI, Nov 5 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha closed the 35th ASEAN Summit, handed over the ASEAN chairmanship to Vietnam and wished ASEAN to continue with efforts to develop its sustainability.
In his summit-closing speech, Gen Prayut, also the defence minister, thanked all parties for supporting the ASEAN chair roles of Thailand this year. He said that as the ASEAN chair, Thailand promoted cooperation, trust, progress and sustainability and wished to see ASEAN benefit from the Industry 4.0 era and successfully develop its comprehensive sustainability.
With the regional cooperation, citizens of ASEAN member countries would have better life security amid high competition and uncertainties and trust through the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) was used as the basis of ASEAN’s strategies and economic development, Gen Prayut said.
Besides, ASEAN adopted an official document on its outlook on the Indo-Pacific and formed mechanisms to solve humanitarian issues in the Rakhine State, he said.
Gen Prayut also said that the ASEAN Single Window scheme expanded to cover all 10 ASEAN member states this year. ASEAN set up its network to fight against illegal fishing and worked out a guideline for the sustainable development of its capital markets.
On the occasion, Gen Prayut ceremonially handed over the ASEAN chairmanship to Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. (TNA)
