NONTHABURI, Nov 4 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha met his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe and discussed bilateral cooperation on SME and start-up promotion, smart city development, access to financial services, human resources development and marine debris management.
In their meeting on the occasion of the 35th ASEAN Summit, Gen Prayut, also the defence minister, congratulated Japan for the agreement between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Japan on their joint communique relating to the 22nd ASEAN-Japan Summit.
He also expressed his hope for ASEAN and Japan to cooperate under the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific framework especially when it comes to smart city development, access to financial services, human resources development, and environmental protection including marine debris management.
Gen Prayut admired Japan in its capacity as the G20 chair for its reports on important results of the G20 meeting. He wished Japan will successfully host the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Both prime ministers shared their pleasure on bilateral cooperation to promote small and medium-scaled enterprises and start-ups. So far start-ups and large-scaled companies of Thailand and Japan have signed six memorandums of understandings.
They also discussed the frameworks of ASEAN and G20 that Thailand and Japan chaired respectively. They talked about the development of target industries and infrastructures in the Eastern Economic Corridor, situations in the Rakhine State and cultural and sports cooperation between Thailand and Japan.
