PHETCHABURI, April 5 (TNA) – Senior defence officials of Southeast Asia gathered for ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meetings and agreed to promote regional stability.
Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit, spokesman of the Defence Ministry, said Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon welcomed senior defence officials of 18 countries who attended the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) and the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting – Plus Working Group (ADSOM – Plus WG) at Dusit Thani Hotel in Cha-am district of Phetchaburi province on April 3-5.
“Gen Prawit expressed gratitude for ASEAN members and dialogue partners’ continuous support for Thailand, especially in this important year when coronation ceremonies are set in May,” Lt Gen Kongcheep said.
“This year we focus on ASEAN defence ministries and dialogue partners’ visions and continuous preparation for security challenges in order to maintain regional stability.”
Gen Prawit hoped that mechanisms for the cooperation would grow steadily and no countries would be left behind, Lt Gen Kongcheep said.
On the occasion, Gen Prawit expressed his condolences on the attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, and flash floods in Papua province of Indonesia, the spokesman said. (TNA)
