BANGKOK, March 29 (TNA) — The Highways Department is maintaining highways and plans special lanes to serve a travelling spree during the Songkran Festival next month.
Apisit Promsen, deputy director-general of the Highways Department, said that to serve motorists during the Songkran Festival, the department ordered its nationwide branches to maintain highway tarmac, clean safety elements of highways such as traffic signs, lines and lights, improve safety features at danger-prone highway sections, cut roadside branches and grasses and erect traffic advice signs from March 18 to April 3.
The department also ordered its local offices along highways to open their toilets to general people, especially on main highways and tourism routes, and build special lanes to facilitate traffic during the Songkran Festival.
Mr Apisit suggested motorists drive slowly, turn on headlights, use safety belts and crash helmets and follow traffic signs and officials’ instructions for the sake of road safety. In emergency cases on highways, people can call the Highways Depart at 1586 and highway police at 1193. (TNA)
