CHIANG MAI, Feb 18 (TNA) – Thai Buddhists take part in
religious rites ahead of Macha Bucha Day, one of the most important days of
Buddhism commemorating the day when 1,250 monks gathered to be ordained by Lord
Buddha.
Wat Sri Don Mun Temple in Chiang Mai province is holding a
ceremony to enshrine a large Buddha image, over 12 meters in height, inside the
temple’s ordination hall.
The enshrinement coincides with Makha Bucha Day when
Buddhists observe the full moon of the third lunar month which falls on Tuesday
this year.
Across Thailand, Buddhism promotion and religious activities
are held on Makha Bucha, which is a national holiday.
Buddhist faithful visited the famous Wat Phra That Chae Hae
Temple of Nan province as part of their holiday travelling.
Nan city and other local communities organize celebration
and special religious events to promote Buddha’s teachings through different
activities.
In Phichit’s Sam Ngam district, Sri Satharam Temple has
attracted a number of Buddhists to observe religious activities and the
newly-renovated all-white ordination hall.
The structure’s fascinating features are crocodile
sculptures, as Phichit is known of mythical crocodile lord Chalawan.
Buddhists are encouraged to take parts in merit-making and
Buddhism promotion activities to purify the mind and follow Lord Buddha’s
teachings. (TNA)
