CHIANG MAI, Jan 14 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha visited Mae Chaem district of the northern province to inspect the implementation of an anti-smoke haze project before chairing a cabinet meeting in Lampang province tomorrow.
Gen Prayut arrived at Rajaprajanugroh 31 School in Mae Chaem at about 10am. About 6,000 local people received him. Then the prime minister witnessed a ceremony where the minister of natural resources and environment handed a community forest book to representatives of local communities and the Chiang Mai governor presented membership cards to the villagers who join a community farmland scheme.
Afterwards, the prime minister presented tools for the anti-smoke haze campaign in Mae Chaem.
In the campaign called “Mae Chaem Model”, the government successfully supports local people in growing organic vegetables instead of sugarcane in 110,000 rai of land and encourages them not to burn farm waste.
The campaign has reduced smoke haze in Chiang Mai and Mae Chaem has become a district of organic farming and local people enjoy food security and higher income.
Gen Prayut will chair a cabinet meeting at Rajabhat Lampang University in Lampang province tomorrow. (TNA)
