BANGKOK, Jan 2 (TNA) – The coronation ceremonies of HM King
Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun will be held between May 4 and 6,
the Royal Household Bureau announced on the New Year Day.
The announcement which was posted on the Royal Gazette on
Tuesday means the coronation will take place after the planned general election
on February 24 with a new civilian government at the helm.
It also confirms what military junta leader and Prime Minister
Prayut Chan-o-cha stated early last month that the coronation would be held
after the election.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn succeeded his father, HM King Bhumibol
Adulyadej who passed away on October 13, 2016.
The palace also announced royal ceremonies with the
coronation on May 4, a royal parade on May 5 and a public appearance on the
last day.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn in his New Year’s Eve address
Monday night wished the Thai people good health, happiness and prosperity. He called on Thai people to act with virtue
to overcome obstacles for the country’s progress, prosperity and stability.
