BERLIN, Nov 28 (TNA) – Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut
Chan-o-cha has pledged that the upcoming general election will be free
and fair.
Gen Prayut told a group of Thai officials and expatriates in
Berlin during his official visit to Germany on Wednesday that his
administration would try its best to guarantee free and fair election before
transferring power to the newly-elected government.
The prime minister is in the middle of his official visit to
Germany. After arriving in Berlin on
Tuesday, he met Thai business representatives and was briefed by Thailand
diplomatic corps on the overall Thai-German relations. He later gave his remarks to members of Thai
community in Germany, focusing on his government’s performance and vision for
political transition.
After the 2014 coup, Gen Prayut said, his government had
forged the country’s stability paving the way for the next election. In the past four years, there had been over
400 legislations, the highest number that no previous administrations had
achieved.
Several of his government’s economic policies had proved to
be fruitful, contributing to steady growth, he added.
According to government officials, Prayut will meet with
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, focusing on strengthening relations between
the two countries through bilateral and regional frameworks including ASEAN.
Thailand hopes to strengthen bilateral cooperation for
sustainable development with an emphasis on vocational education and technical
development for Thailand’s workforce, officials say.
The Thai government leader will attend Thai-German Business
Forum, a gathering of German business leaders on the theme Asia-Europe
Partnership for the future. (TNA)
