CHIANG MAI, Nov 19 (TNA) – The giant panda pair at Chiang
Mai Zoo make their first appearance inside an open enclosure for the time this
winter, while another zoo in the northern province welcomes a newborn baby tapir.
Zookeepers let the 17-year-old male panda, Chuang Chuang,
out of the air-conditioned enclosure to the adjacent open-air panda exhibit
Monday morning. His mate, Lin Hui, will
have her chance to stroll around the Great Wall-themed area in the evening.
Chuang Chuang appeared relaxed feeding on bamboo leaves in
comfortable morning temperature; 25 degree Celsius.
Wuthichai Muangman, the zoo director, said the panda pair
would be routinely brought into the open-air exhibit throughout the winter.
Meanwhile, another zoo in the northern city, Chiang Mai
Night Safari, introduced a two-month-old Brazilian tapir calf to the public.
Named Nam Ping after Chiang Mai’ main waterway the Ping
River, the young tapir is on display in the Jaguar Trail section of the open
zoo.
The baby tapir was born of a pair of Brazilian tapir under
Thailand’s only tapir conservation program at Chiang Mai Night Safari. (TNA)
