SONGKHLA, May 28 (TNA) – The Padang Besar border checkpoint in Songkhla have been closed after Thai students, who returned from Saudi Arabia and entered Thailand at the checkpoint tested positive to Covid-19 while being in state quarantine.
The closure allowed officials in Thailand and Malaysia to disinfect the border checkpoint areas.
Six out of 39 students had travelled through the Padang Besar border pass on May 25. They were placed under state quarantine in Thailand and were found infected with coronavirus.
Songkhla governor Jaruwat Kliangklao submitted a letter to the Interior Ministry to close Padang Besar checkpoint after it had been opened to receive stranded Thais to travel home from Malaysia for about a month.
The province will reopen Sadao border checkpoint on May 31 instead. The Sadao border checkpoint has been temporarily closed since April 23 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Among all six new cases, three infected students are being treated at hospital in Songkhla and are in stable condition. Twenty-seven people, who had contact with the patients are being qaurantined. (TNA)
