TRAT, Sept 19 (TNA) – The flood situation on Koh Chang in Trat province has returned to normal after the tourist island was hit by a flash flood yesterday.
Floodwater decreased but local authorities keeps monitoring rainfall. The runoff from a mountain cut off Ban Klong Plu bridge.
Roads have dried up after they were submerged by forest runoff.
Poles have been laid on the bridge as a temporary walkway for pedestrians. The Koh Chang municipality has surveyed damage to provide assistance to flood victims urgently.
The meteorological department forecast thunderstorms and torrential rain in parts of the lower central region, the East and the upper South including Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Ranong, Phang-nga, Phuket and Krabi.
Rainfall has decreased in the North and the Northeast. Waves are likely 2-3 meters high in the upper Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Small boats are advised to stay at shore.
Forest runoff, flowing heavily flooded low-lying areas under one metre of water on Koh Chang after torrential rain. Waterfall tours were suspended and waterfalls were closed for safety of tourists. (TNA)
