BANGKOK, Sept 12 (TNA) — Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has warned people in Ubon Ratchathani that deluges of water will pass their province tomorrow.
The prime minister posted his warning via his social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter, reading “I would like people in Ubon Ratchathani province to brace for huge deluges that will flow past Muang Ubon Ratchathani district tomorrow. Water will rise, overflow and flood many areas. Please follow up news from government agencies closely and if you need help, please call the hotline number 1784. I wish everyone is safe.”
Meanwhile, Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit said the prime minister who was also the defence minister ordered all armed forces to help flood victims in the North and the Northeast.
According to him, deep floods remained in eight northeastern provinces. Local military units were ordered to monitor the levels of the Mun river and other waterways in areas of torrential rain and help flood victims, especially those in Ubon Ratchathani, until situations are relieved.
Lt Gen Kongcheep also said that about 4,000 military officers and flood-relief equipment including vehicles, boats and pumps were mobilized to help flood victims together with volunteers. Their missions include searches and rescues. Besides, 25 water-propelling boats were deployed in flooded areas to speed up drainage. (TNA)
