BANGKOK, Sept 11 (TNA) – The Agriculture Minister pushed for the ban on three hazardous farm chemicals by the end of this year.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Mananya Thaiset on Tuesday met representatives from the network of 686 organizations, campaigning for a ban on hazardous farm chemicals.
The meeting agreed to push for the ban of two herbicides paraquat, glyphosate and the pesticide, chloropyrifos.
The deputy minister said the Agriculture Ministry concluded its policy to ban the three farm chemicals and proposed alternatives and safe agriculture to replace the use of hazardous chemicals in its report.
The report on the negative impacts of these farm chemicals was studied by the Department of Agriculture and will be submitted to the Industry Ministry’s committee on hazardous substances for consideration and making decision.
It was made carefully and completely as much as possible, so it will be not rejected as in the past, she said.
She said her ministry will check stocks of those chemicals nationwide to ensure no users imported them after the import ban, imposed on June 30, 2019.
Legal action will be taken against violators, who falsify the import details, distribution and the amount of the farm chemicals in their stocks. (TNA)
