BANGKOK, Sept 6 (TNA) – The Chao Phraya barrage will release more water from increasing northern run-off, which will cause flood in low-lying areas downstream outside flood embankments.
Thongplew Kongjun the director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department said that the Chao Phraya barrage increased the water release to 800-850 cubic metres per second on Friday to offset massive run-off from the North.
The Chao Phraya River is swelling due to heavy rainfall.
People in seven provinces downstream were warned about the new level of water discharge.
Those provinces are Uthai Thani, Ayutthaya, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri and Lopburi.
He said it would have impacts on low-lying areas outside flood embankments in Ang Thong and Ayutthaya. Floodwater could rise as much as 40-50 cm. tomorrow afternoon. (TNA)
