KRABI, Oct 12 (TNA) – Two Ghanaians, former
footballers of Krabi Football Club in Thai South, have been arrested for
violating immigration laws, as Thai authorities have launched a crackdown on
estimated 50,000 foreign nationals who have
overstayed their visas in the country.
Tackie Prince Nii Owusu, 33, and Addo Nana Kwame, 30,
overstayed their visas for two years and nine months and three years and six
months respectively, according to immigration police in the southern province
of Krabi.
They remained in the country after their contracts with
Krabi FC expired and became youth football coaches without proper permits.
The two Ghanaians admitted violating the immigration laws.
The arrests came after the Thai government ordered a
one-month police campaign to crackdown on foreigners who overstay their visas.
According to the Immigration Bureau, about 50,000
foreign nationals are overstaying their visas in the Kingdom.
The Bureau and other law enforcement agencies have conducted
strict measures on foreigners and intensified surveillance, particularly, on
professions of most illegal expatriates including professional athletes and
language teachers. (TNA)
