BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) – The Transport Ministry planned to open a 30-kilometer-long section of the Bang Pa-in-Nakhon Ratchasima motorway to facilitate traffic during the Songkran festival.
Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said he ordered the Highways Department to check the latest construction progress of Motorway 6 from Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima and assess the possibility of opening its section to facilitate Songkran traffic.
He planned the tentative use on the elevated section of the new inter-city motorway above the Lam Takhong dam from the 65th kilometer marker of Mitraparp Highway in Nong Sarai sub-district to the end of the elevated section on Highway 201. The tentative use was set from April 8 to 19.
The possibility of the tentative use of the motorway section was 90%, Mr Saksayam said.
He also ordered the Highways Department to check the safety aspects of the motorway section including lightings and the conditions of ramps. He planned to open two lanes on the section for one-way use to serve either Songkran exodus or return traffic at a time. (TNA)
