BANGKOK, Feb 10 (TNA) – Bangkok police advised people to avoid the MBK skywalk over Pathumwan intersection where anti-government demonstrators planned a rally this evening.
Pol Maj Gen Piya Tawichai, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB), said the rally was set at 5pm and general people should stay away from the area from 3pm.
The rally could affect traffic on Rama I Road between Chalermphao and Charoenphol intersections and on Phaya Thai Road between Ratchathevi and Chula 12 intersections, he said.
MPB prepared five companies of police to handle the rally.
Pol Maj Gen Piya said police were concerned about the planned rally because of the ongoing COVID-19 wave. Demonstrators had joined rallies with Myanmar people on Feb 1, 5 and 8 and some Myanmar demonstrators came from Samut Sakhon, he said.
Besides, demonstrations violated the executive decree on public administration in emergency situations and the Communicable Disease Act which were imposed to contain COVID-19, he said. (TNA)
