SWITZERLAND, June 27 (TNA) – Thailand and Switzerland become the world’s first two countries to seal a deal on carbon credit exchanges.
Thailand’s Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawuth Silpa-archa and Simonetta Sommaruga, Switzerland’s head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications, signed the Implementing Agreement to the Paris Agreement between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Swiss Confederation in Bern at 1.30pm on June 24.
Under agreement, both countries will cooperate voluntarily on carbon credit exchanges according to Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
Switzerland will also support Thailand’s projects to promote clean energy and electric buses in Bangkok to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This will back Thailand’s goals for its carbon neutrality within 2050 and net zero greenhouse gas emissions within 2065.
