BANGKOK, Aug 24 (TNA) – Justice Minister Somsak Thepsuthin said he let the Corrections Department decide whether anti-government protest leader Parit “Penguin” Chivarak who was infected with COVID-19 should receive treatment outside his prison or not.
The minister responded to the request from the mother of Mr. Parit that her son be brought out of his prison to receive COVID-19 treatment at Thammasat University Hospital.
Mr. Somsak said that if Central Correctional Hospital was unable to treat him, executives of the Justice Ministry would arrange for assistance.
Personally, the minister said, the hospital of the Corrections Department was capable of the treatment and politicians should not intervene in the matter and should let permanent government officials handle the issue.
“If he is allowed to receive treatment on the outside, other prisoners can follow suit. I emphasize that Central Correctional Hospital shares the same standard as general hospitals,” Mr. Somsak said. (TNA)
