BANGKOK, Jan 4 (TNA) – The Badminton World Federation and the Badminton Association of Thailand have confirmed that Japanese badminton player and badminton world number one Kento Momota had to withdraw from three tournaments in Thailand for testing positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 before his trip to Thailand.
Mr Momota had met teammates a day before his test, at a practice stadium in Tokyo on Jan 2. His test result prompted the Nippon Badminton Association to withdraw its whole team from the three tournaments that were set to begin in 10 days in Thailand.
Badminton players from other countries were arriving in Thailand. All players are required to show a certificate confirming they are free of COVID-19. They were scheduled to arrive in the country by Jan 4 and enter an organizational quarantine process before competition. (TNA)
