BANGKOK, Nov 12 (TNA) – All 51 Thai naval officers, who participated in the Cobra-Gold training exercise tested negative for Covid-19, said Navy spokesman Vice Admiral Chettha Chaipiem.
The mass testing was conducted after a participating South Korean soldier was found being infected with coronavirus when he returned to South Korea on Nov 8.
He attended the Final Planning Conference of the Cobra Gold joint military exercise in Rayong from Nov 2-6.
The rapid test, performed on him during the screening process at Incheon Airport, which could possibly be false positive, said the Thai naval spokesman.
The result of the repeat PCR test will be known on Nov 15, he added.
Thai navy officials, attending the same event and those who had close contact with the South Korean soldier were contacted to undergo swab tests at the Sattahip Naval Base on Nov 9.
Fifty-one officials have been placed at the facilities to monitor their conditions and the rest with low-risk of infections returned home for 14-day self-quarantine. (TNA)
