BANGKOK, Nov 11 (TNA) – About 2.4 million people have registered for the second round of the co-payment scheme, claiming all available rights just a few hours after the reopening of the online registration.
The online registration started at 6 a.m. and applicants failed to register due to technical problems, caused by the overwhelming number of applicants, said a source from the Ministry of Finance.
Krung Thai Bank then announced to close the system to fix it and the registration resumed at 9 am., said the Fiscal Policy Office’s deputy spokesman, Pornchai Theerawet.
Thirty minutes later, all rights were claimed and the registration system was closed.
The 50-50 co-payment scheme subsidizes registrants for half of their purchase at small shops and vendors with a maximum daily payment of 150 baht or a total of 3,000 baht for the whole duration of the scheme.
The campaign is part of the government’s economic stimulus measures and has proved popular among small scale traders and consumers, who are not eligible for other government welfare campaigns. (TNA)
