BANGKOK, Oct 7 (TNA) – Bangkok traffic police have been assigned to be prepared for traffic problems on 14 flood-prone roads as a depression is arriving.
Pol Maj Gen Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said the Meteorological Department warned that it would rain in 80% of the capital from Oct 7 to 9 due to a depression. Therefore, traffic police were ordered to be ready for possible flooding and traffic congestion.
Police were ordered to advise motorists on detours to avoid flooded roads and help those whose vehicles break down in floodwater, he said.
He suggested motorists should inquire about traffic conditions on their routes at the traffic hotline number 1197.
Pol Maj Gen Jirasan said that if it rained more than 60 millimeters per hour, flood would usually happen on Chaeng Watthana, Ratchadaphisek, Phahon Yothin, Pracharat Sai Song, Rajavithi, Phaya Thai, Sri Ayutthaya, Chan, Sathu Pradit, Suan Phlu, Suwinthawong, Phetkasem, Soi Mooban Sethakit and Bang Khun Thian-Chai Talay roads.
