PHAYAO, Dec 11 (TNA) – Buddhists gave alms to monks at
midnight in an ancient ritual of the northern Phayao province called “Peng
Pud.”
Hundreds of Buddhist faithful gathered at Wat Sri Umong Kham
temple at midnight for alms-giving that is normally made in the morning hours.
The midnight alms-offering ceremony was held out of a
Buddhist belief of the ancient Lanna civilization that one of the monks
ordained by Lord Buddha gives blessing before dawn of a full moon night.
Similar ceremonies were held at other temples in Phayao
province as well. Monks and novices
received alms from people in the cold winter night. (TNA)
