BANGKOK, Nov 18 (TNA) — Defence ministers of ASEAN and dialogue partners together with the ASEAN secretary-general met the prime minister who urged for ASEAN’s joint efforts to tackle all forms of threats and promote security.
The delegations paid the courtesy call on Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on the occasion of their attendance at the 6th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus).
During the meeting, Gen Prayut thanked ASEAN member states, dialogue partners and the ASEAN Secretariat for their support for the 35th ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Thailand early this month.
Gen Prayut also told the delegates that all parties would have to promote sustainable security because it was fundamental to economic growth. He urged ASEAN member countries to collectively cope with security threats, especially terrorism, transnational crime, natural disasters, marine pollution and cyber security threats.
The prime minister urged for the use of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC). He also praised ADMM and ADMM-Plus as boosting strategic trust and regional security. A concrete result from the mechanisms was the inclusion of the ASEAN Center of Military Medicine in the ASEAN Charter, Gen Prayut said. (TNA)
